numero 60 communal blog

These are some comments added by friends at my 60th birthday party.

I am in an old house, a house rich and beautiful and tumbledown with memories, heavy with the history of families and souls. One of those souls is celebrating his birthday, an old-young, frail-resilient, surprising 60 he is. Like the great old olive tree in the back garden he is still generously fruiting, like the marble stairs at the front he is timelessly beautiful, greying and overrun. His step is halting, his traitorous body unobedient, but his lover, a tall slender beauty, can still raise his head and light his eyes. Who knows how long any of us has in this mad world? I wonder will I see 60? Will Alexx see his "allotted" three score and ten? How many of us will? How much future is there left anyway? Enough, at least, for more of these sweet, slow autumn afternoons, full of friends, food, wine, wit and wandering talk. Live on, lovers of life. Jaqi.

Here's to you Alex, a marvel and wonderful person together with your beloved and beautiful Paula. Have the very best of birthdays and here's to many, many more. Lots of love and wishes. Phil

Hippy Bathday - an oldie but a goodie, like you toots! I've said it before and I'll say it again, old hippies get better with sage, and darling they don't come more sage than you. May the road rise up to meet your feet. Love Peace and Blessings, Angie.

to my dear friend Alex, the happiest of birthdays, may you and Paula share many more. You are indeed the most charming, kind, intelligent, polite, sociable, engaged, engaging, fun, happy,
intellectual, erudite, sparkling, soulful, challenging, magnificent, gorgeously loving and lovable slightly unusual and enchanting friends a mere mortal could ever wish for.

Dearest Alexx, I wish you the happiest of birthdays, I must say I was very surprised (as you told me, you were too!) when I opened the invitation to your party and "60" was flashing away as a colourful header. It took me a moment to realise 'Alexx must be turning 60'. You carry your youth beautifully. I am so pleased to see you happy and in love with life and your wonderful partner. I wish you many many more years of love and fun. Thank you for your friendship.
With lots of love from Matthew x x

Well, dearest, it's been a long day - but a beautiful day - a truly happy birthday, hasn't it? This is my first chance to stop and sit down and add a few words to your blog. The day has gone so well. All your friends came, and there was plenty to eat and drink. Grain-fed chicken and your excellent salad; Pastizzi and George's home-baked spanikoppita; dips and chips and more cheese than you could poke a (cheese) stick at! Hey! And how chocolatey was that chocolate cake? Everyone got into the spirit of olive-picking, didn't they? I think we're gettin' good at this party thing and I do love so much to see to see you happy and surrounded by friends and having a good time (I had a good time, too!). But of course, most of all I love being with you, this day and every day - the pleasure and the treasure and the honour of it all. Goddess bless, I love you, your wife-to-be, Paula xxxxx
